Notes from America

3 minute read

Things have turned upside down for America racing this weekend – the Kentucky Oaks and Derby have been moved to September and now the Dubai World Cup has been cancelled.

While things on the surface were nearly normal at the Fairgrounds, that wasn't enough to remove the general uneasiness over the future off American racing.

Brad Cox had what would have been a very memorable day by training the winner of the two Classics and the Munoz Memorial but like many others he's unsure of how to handle this change of scene.  As he said you spend all winter getting these horses ready for May and now nobody knows quite what to do.

On the positive side Maximum Security has passed an extensive veterinary check and after a spell will go to Bob Baffert.

The hearings against trainers Jason Servis and Jorge Navarro which were due to be heard on 23 March have been postponed as the New York Courts have closed because of the Covid-19 regulations.

And one of our favourite horses Ashleylovessugar has been retired.
