Japanese racing to continue behind "closed doors"

3 minute read

The State of Emergency in Japan has led to the JRA tightening restrictions already in place in order for Japanese racing to continue.

Japanese racing enters the Classics season this weekend with the running of the Oka Sho or 1000 Guineas at Hanshin on Sunday.

After this weekend jockeys, who normally have a lock-down in dormitories on course the night prior to racing, will have to stay in "certified adjustment rooms" instead.  They will also not be permitted to ride on two different tracks over the course of a weekend.

Horses below stakes level will have to race in their own sector depending on their being housed at either Mito or Ritto training centres.

During the time racing has been held behind "closed doors" the betting turnover has not been affected and over a couple of the big races it even increased.  Japan will also be betting on the QEII at Randwick in which Danon Premium is running.

Word is that Lucky Lilac may be set for the Arc should that race happen.
