This year sees the incredible jumping machine Oju Chosan go for his fifth consecutive win in the race.

He is of course odds-on at 1.3 and the next best are Shingun Michael 5.9 and Meisho Dassai on 8.1.

One of Australia's greatest Karasi won this race three times and was in training for a fourth go when he got injured and had to be retired.  He was given a very moving farewell at Nakayama, the scene of his greatest triumphs and was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.
