Oju Chosan a Living National Treasure

3 minute read

Or he should be named one after winning his 5th consecutive Nakayama Grand Jump.

Jockey Shinichi Ishigama, who was winning his 8th J-G1 had his horse just behind the original leader Meadowlark until the 10th jump when he went to the lead.  Meadowlark made a bad jump and Shingun Michael also came unstuck on this one.  Ishigama chose a cautious route as Oju Chosan had not run on a wet track before but he had no need to worry as the champ jumped everything cleanly except for a slight wobble at the 9th.

Bright Quartz was giving chase and just missed out on second when Meisho Dassai burst through, but Oju Chosan was 3 lengths ahead of them and history was made.
