Racing resumes on very soft Longchamp

3 minute read

The track appears to not have recovered from the downpour on Saturday night and several upsets were the result.

The first of these appeared in the opening race, the Prix de Saint-Georges when Batwan 7/1 got the win ahead of Gold Vibe 9/1 and Setilio Jet third. The more fancied runners finished at the wrong end.

Then shock horror in the Prix de Fontainbleau when odd-on favourite Victor Ludorum could only finish 3rd with The Summit winning on 25/1 and Ecrivain second on 15/2.  In his defence Victor raced very fresh and was a bit hard to settle but he will continue to the June 1 Poulains (French 2000 Guineas).  Not a bad run from Pisanello and Devil was.

Tropbeau was ab obliging favourite winner in the Prix de la Grotte, with bridesmaids Dream and Do 6/1 and stablemate Tickle Me Green.  Both Fabre runners will continue on to the Pouliches, or French 1000 Guineas.

Another shock horror result in the Prix d'Harcourt when Shaman 6/1 got the win.  Trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias and another winner for Maxim Guyon (part of a treble) the horse will now head either to the Ganay or d'Ispahan – connections are keen to get a G1 in the CV.  Way To Paris was second on 27/1 and Simona 8/1 third.  We were on the right track with horses whose names began with "S" only we picked the wrong three!  Sottsass was another odds-on favourite who in this instance finished 4th.  He will benefit from the run and could need a longer trip.
