Almond Eye back in Tokyo Sunday

3 minute read

After an unlucky run in the Arima Kinen and a futile trip to Dubai, Almond Eye returns to Tokyo for the G1 Victoria Mile.

She is odds-on here which isn't such a good thing as favourites don't have much luck in this race.  However she is Japan's sweetheart and as usual will be in the capable hands of Christophe Lemaire.

Almond Eye's short price leaves lots of value for each-ways and multiples.  Last year's Oaks winner Loves Only You is on 8.5 and looks like a great successor to Lys Gracieux for the Yahagi stable.  She'll be ridden by Mirco Demuro looking for a second G1 in consecutive weeks.  Primo Scene isn't the most consistent but she will have Damian Lane on board and is 9.5.

Sound Chiara was second last year and this year has won a G3 at 1400m and a G2 at 1600m in preparation for this race.  12.2 is worth considering.

Normcore won this last year and while she hasn't done much since then that was a record breaking run and 14.5 could be value.

Saturday's G2 Keio Hai Spring Cup produced a win for Damian Lane for the second year running when Danon Smash won, with two other Lord Kanaloa's forming the trifecta – Stelvio and Groove It.  It was also a bracket quinella for the pink caps for those who follow such things.
