70th Yasuda Kinen at Tokyo Sunday

3 minute read

We've been to at least 15 editions of this race and it will be strange to just watch it on TV.

Especially as the brilliant Almond Eye will have another go after last year suffering a rare defeat.  This could become her 8th G1 win and that total could have been higher but she missed out on a trip to Hong Kong last year and then got the trip to Dubai but the races were cancelled.  Christophe Lemaire will be in the irons this time.  And of course she is odds-on with current quote around 1.4.

Indy Champ won this race last year and is a 1600m specialist.  He also holds the race record after that run.  He's in single figures on 7.1 and the rest are in double figures.

Gran Alegria is another female who gets the weight advantage and is on 10.4, Danon Premium is the ride of Damian Lane and they are on 11.1.  There are three "Danon" horses in the race so good luck Murray!

Admire Mars is another mile specialist and won in Hong Kong last December – on 14.5 and our roughie is Normcore who holds the track record for this trip and is the third of the female runners with their weight advantage – 39.3 so worth an e/w venture.
