3 minute read

It wasn't all plain sailing and Colin Keane had to fight his way through the Ballydoyle pack but once clear it was.

Plain sailing, that is, as they defeated Vatican City 14/1 by 1 ¼ lengths with Lope Y Fernandez and Armory close behind.

Siskin, by First Defence, obviously had no trouble with the trip and continues the unbeaten run.

The Gallinule saw Joseph O'Brien's Crossirehurricane also continue an unbeaten run to finish ahead of Gold Maze and Sherpa.

The Irish Lincolnshire was won by trainer Adrian McGuiness's "other" runner Bowerman who went off at 5/1, and under Ronan Whelan they landed the prize ahead of Colfer Me on 66/1, Broad Street 40/1 and Saltonstall 10/1.

Fleeting had to settle for the bridesmaid spot again in the Moorsebridge when Jessica Harrington's Leo de Fury raced away to win by 3 lengths.  Numerian was third and Latrobe 5th of 9.

Saturday sees the running of 1000 Guineas with 16 to tackle the 1600m trip.  Jessica Harrington's good season could continue here with Albinga on 7/4.  Aiden saddles Peaceful 3/1 and one we like So Wonderful 6/1, and Donnacha has Fancy Blue in here on 5/1.  With 3 O'Brien trainers we are opting just for first names.

Earlier at the Curragh there is the G3 Gladness over 1400m with 7 runners. Lancaster House is down in trip which should not be a problem – Aidan + Hefffernan and 11/8.  Joseph's Speak in Colours is promising and comes in on 13/8 and Smash Williams could well be in the mix on 7/1 for Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning.

At Newbury there's the Diomed G3 down the straight 1600m.  John Gosden's King of Comedy is on 7/4, Sir Michael Stoute's Zaaki on 7/2 with Ryan Moore riding – he won this race last year when it was at Epsom.  Tabarrak is on 6/1 for Richard Hannon and Jim Crowley.
