A hard day for jockeys

3 minute read

Friday was a bad day for jockeys in France and Germany.

In France at St Cloud veteran jockey Olivier Peslier had a fall in which he suffered a broken jaw, so he cannot take up his rides at Chantilly on Sunday.

The in the last race at Mannheim in Germany Czech jockey Filip Minarik had a very nasty fall and was taken in an unconscious state to hospital where he was placed in an induced coma.  His injury was analysed as an open fracture of the ankle which has now been operated on and the jockey is conscious.

These are experienced jockeys and it just goes to prove what a dangerous profession race riding is.  As a friend remarked it is the only sport where the ambulance follows the jockeys round the track.
