Although there were not many hats around as this was behind closed doors and it was bucketing rain.  This builds on his win in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and although it was hard to see through the rain Tactical under William Buick avoided any royal displeasure by coming though the wet and overtaking the field in a very good finish.  It may be on to the Prix Morny in France in August.  Yazaman had to settle or bridesmaid again and the third went to Escape Route.

Earlier Al Aasy put in a top performance to win the Bahrain Trophy from the promising Dawn Rising who showed resilience in staying on for second and William Buick had to work hard on Al Dabaran to take third.

At York Mark Johnston underlined his ownership of the Knavesmire by saddling the winners of the two features:  Rose of Kildare in the Musidora and Thunderous in the Dante.  Rose of Kildare had raced the previous Saturday at Epsom in the Oaks where she ran third and two weeks before that she was third in the German 1000 Guineas second up.  One would think that a nice holiday at the beach would suit after all this racing.  Promsing grey Albalfora was second and Ricetta third.

The Dante went to Thunderous, another Night of Thunder colt, who burst through at the end to overtake Highest Ground and a good run from Juan Elcano third.  Franny Norton was the jockey in charge of both Johnston winners.

Friday's going will be soft after the rain which should not trouble Dandalla in the G3 Duchess of Cambridge for the 2yo fillies.  She ran away with the Albany Stakes winning by 6 lengths and is on 11/10, with Ben Curtis as usual in the irons for Karl Burke.  Time Scale is by Charm Sprit and has won his two outings to date and is on 2/1, with Hala Hala Hala who won on debut is 13/2 – by Exceed and Excell with Frankie Dettori riding for Kevin Ryan and 13/2.

Terebellum ran a great race behind Circus Maximus in the G1 Queen Ann and is 10/11 for the Falmouth Stakes.  One Master is by Fastnet Rock and William Haggas has booked Pierre-Charles Boudot for the ride – 3/1 the quote.  We like the chances of Nazeef here with Jim Crowley riding for John Gosden.  He's had four starts for three wins and a third and 5/1 appeals.
