Champions Day at Leopardstown 2020

3 minute read

The last race on the Leopardstown Cardn is called "Is It 2021 Yet?" which we think is brilliant.

However before that race we have a number of group races that are very much in 2020.

Many of these give entry to the appropriate Breeders' Cup race.  The first of the group races is the G1 Matron Stakes for f&m over 1600m with 11 starters.  Fancy Blue is on 2/1 for Donnacha and Ryan Moore, Peaceful 9/4 for his father and Seamie Heffffernan and Albinga is on 11/2 for Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley.  We have a roughie here in the stablemate Valeria Messalina on 16/1 with Buick riding – worth a bit of each way.

The Juvenile G2 is over 1600m for 2yos and has 10 runners.  Cadillac is on 11/4, Fernando Vichi 4/1, Liffey River 5/1 and  Van Gogh 11/2 and any of these could win. They are 2yos and as such may be feeling the effects of a long season.

The Irish Championship Stakes G1 over 2000m has the exciting Ghaiyyath odds-on for Appleby-Buick.  The two Aidan runners Japan and Magical are on 9/2 and there's the French raider here Sotsass with Rouget booking Colin Keane for the ride and they are well worth a look at on 8/1.

The Boomerang Mile G2 is for 3yos and has 10 runners.  Lancaster House is on 3/1, Safe Voyage and Century Dream on 7/2.

And then there's the "Is It 2021 Yet" which is G3 over 2400m.  Tiger Moth is on 4/1.Buckhurst and Patrick Sarsfield are on 9/2 and a bit of a roughie but we like Bolivar on 9/1 with Buick on board or Twomey.
