Irish St Leger 2020

3 minute read

There are 5 Group races on Sunday's card.

The Blandford Stakes is G2 for f&m over 2000m with 11 runners.  Magic Wand and One Voice vie for favouritism and either could win.  Jessica Harrington's other runner Cayenne Pepper is in good form and is on 9/2 and Lemista 5/1.

The Flying Five is G1 over 1000m and here Make A Challenge is on 3/1 with Glass Slippers and Que Amoro on 4/1.  A'Ali is on 5/1.

The Moyglare is G1 over 1400m and has 13 declared.  Pretty Gorgeous is pretty popular and is on 4/5 with Shale on 4/1.  We were impressed with the recent runs of Teresa Mendoza and she's worth an each-way on 10/1.  An Aussie interest here in Oodnadatta who is part owned by Bob Scarborough and is by Australia.  20/1 for a rough roughie.

The Vincent O'Brien National Stakes is G1 over 1400m with 11 2yos lining up.  Not much between Battleground and Lucky Vega here with next best probably English raider Master Of The Seas on 11/4 for Appleby-Buick.

Then the Irish St Leger.  Unlike the English version this race is not restricted to 3yos.  Twilight Payment is owned by Lloyd Williams and is trained by Joseph O'Brien so a long voyage seems to be in his horoscope if he runs well in this.  He's on 11/4 with the 2019 Irish Derby winner Sovereign on 2/1.  Fujaira Prince has recently arrived on the scene and won the Ebor so if he continues his forward climb could well be a factor here – 4/1 is value if you can get it.
