This last of the big Autumn Handicaps used to signal the end of the flat racing season.
However this has now been extended – too far in our humble opinion – into Champions Day next weekend.
So Saturday's card has the G1 Dewhurst in which 14 2yos will tackle the 1400m and the Cesarewitch, a race that starts In one country and finishes in another.
The Dewhurst sees the unbeaten Chindit on 2/1 with Pat Dobbs riding for Richard Hannon and Thunder Moon 3/1 for Joseph O'B. Have some fun with multlples (they are only 2yos after all) and add Cadillac 10/1 who has been doing great things in Ireland and Etonian 14/1 a stablemate of Chindit with Tom Marquand in the irons.
The Cesarewitch is over 3600m and has a maximum field of 34! The market is understandably very wide with Coltrane and Great White Shark on 8/1. We like Leoncavallo on 9/1, Australis 20/1 (why not) and Not So Sleepy 11/1.
On Friday Andrew Balding's Happy Power won the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff over 1400m, with Pogo on 10/1 second ahead of Glorious Journey third and the winner's stablemate Zakowski fourth.
The Fillies' Mile went to Pretty Gorgeous by ½ length from Pogo 10/1 and Glorious Journey another ½ length away third and Shale ran fourth.
At York Logician was last in the 4-runner G3.
