More Internationals at Geelong

3 minute read

Some of them are moving here but having their first starts in Australia.

The Geelong Cup is over 2400m and has proved to be a useful warm-up for the Melbourne Cup horses.

So there are four horses that have come under our magnifying glass and they feature prominently in the market even more so with the field down to 9.

Ashrun is by Authorised and is trained by Andreas Wöhler who frequently trains for ODI.  He came second recently in France in the Prix Kergolay on soft ground at Deauville, with fellow raider San Huberto was further back.  Craig Williams has the ride.  $4.00 in the early market.

Skyward is by Camelot and like San Huberto was formerly trained in France by Fabrice Chappet.  He came 4th in the Prix Foy behind Anthony van Dyke and before that he won a G3 at Deauville, both races over the longer distances of 3200m and 3000m.  He's now with Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young and William Pike has the ride.  $5.80.

Le Don de Vie is by Leroisdesanimaux, the sire of Animal Kingdom.  He was with Highie Morrison in England and won at Windsor (with Hollie Doyle riding) and ran well at Goodwood in a G3.  He's now with the Freedmans and will have Ben Melham on board and they are at $6.20.

San Huberto is by Speightstown who was a fine sprinter but his progeny seem to be able to stay as well.  He's now with Matt Cumani and just missed out on a run in the Caulfield Cup.  In France he was 3rd in the Maurice de Nieul G2 and won the Vicomtesse Vigier G2.  He's had 4 wins and 3 places in his 11 starts and Damien Oliver will be in the irons.  $10.20.
