The Internationals on Derby Day

3 minute read

These are mostly to be found in the Lexus Hotham Stakes where the winner will gain entry to the Melbourne Cup.

Leading the charge is Ashrun whom we wrote about in the Geelong Cup where he ran well and looked as if he will appreciate the longer trip.  He's No. 29 in the Cup entries and so is nearly there and a win here would clinch it.  He's on 3/1.

Schabau is German bred by Pastorius and was originally trained in Germany by Markus Klug.  He was sold in May 2020 and transferred to Robert Hickmott stables.  He seems to have settled in very well and has had a couple of starts and is on 7/2.  He's No. 46 on the Cup order of entry so he would have to win this to get in.

Admire Robson is by Deep Impact, the wonder Japanese sire.  He's a 6yo and went initially to Darren Weir and then was transferred to Paul Preusker.  He was off for 854 days so must have had some issues and the date may have come too soon.  He's 4/1 which we think is generous and is No. 43 on the Cup entries.

Future Score is by Cape Cross who started off with Godolphin and the Michael Appleby and is now with Matt Cumani.  He's been very lightly raced but showed his breeding when he won the Crabourne Cup with a nice turn of foot.  He's around 6/1 and No. 44 on the Cup entries list.

Not in the Hotham but in the Kennedy Cantala is  Olmedo  who used to be with Jean-Claude Rouget in France and in 2019 he was second in the Wildenstein and 4th in the Moulin.  He went to Kacy Fogden in March this year and has now joined Chris Waller's team.  He would prefer not to have heavy ground and he's drawn the car park but it may be worth having a bit of e/w especially if he's around 26.00!
