Pakistan Star debuts in Meydan Thursday

3 minute read

Pakistan Star has to be one of the most enigmatic horses of all time.

In Hong Kong he was under the care of Tony Cruz and at first he was just brilliant but gradually developed quirks of refusing to race and stopping in the middle of his races and not going on.  They tried everything they could think of there and finally owner Kerm Din decided to try him in a distant sphere.  He had of course been given the "sack" by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

So off he went to Dubai in January and into the Red Stables and the care of Doug Watson.

Doug has had experience both in his native USA and his many years in Dubai and is not afraid of a challenge but this was something else.  However Doug says that he has been behaving beautifully and impressing Pat Dobbs, who will ride him in his Dubai debut.  That will come in Race 5, the Listed The Entisa over 2000m on the dirt.  The surface is new to Pakistan Star as a racing surface although he trained on in in Hong Kong.  He's on 7/4 in the UK and will be competing with a couple of former Argentinians in For The Top who is on 4/1 and Saltarin Dubai on 6/1.  Should be interesting.
