Zac Purton wins the IJC

3 minute read

At a rather sad Happy Valley the joy came from Purton and Millard.

Zac took out the Jockeys' Championship with 2 seconds, 1 win (with Millard) and a dead-heat third giving him a total of 26 points.

Joao Moreira took second on 18 points and Alexis Badel and Hollie Doyle shared third both with a win.  Doyle became the first female to win a leg of the IJC to add to her many "firsts" in her career so far.

Tony Millard took out the trainers' award with two wins and David Hayes was second with one second and one win.

But it wasn't the usual IJC – only a small number of owners allowed in and so there were empty stands and no beer garden and no fireworks.  All very sad although the HKJC did what they could in the circumstances to make the night entertaining.

The barrier draw for Sunday's races will take place Thursday at Sha Tin but we probably won't look at those races before Saturday.
