This was the opening day of the Santa Anita season and produced a record handle.

It also produced some very interesting results not the least of which was the win of Fair Maiden at 20/1 in the La Brea.  The Godolphin runner beat Golden Principal 12/1 by 2 l who headed his Baffert stablemate Merneith on 1 ½ l.  Finite ran fourth and Stellar Sound was a non-runner.

Duopoly is a front-running type and was able to use this skill for maximum effect in the American Oaks on the turf where she was able to hold on to her lead and defeat Going To Vegas 14/1 by 2 l and favourite Sharing had to settle for third.

The Malibu saw Charlatan put in a great run to win by 4 ½ / from Express Train and favourite Nashville was only 4th in the 6 horse race.  Baffert says Charlatan returned in good form and he's now waiting for a bit before deciding what next.
