The Japanese government has declared a "State of Emergency" for Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo.

This is unfortunate as Japanese racing is coming into the big race season with May hosting G1 racing on every Sunday leading up to the Oaks and Derby meetings.

There were two G2 races on Sunday – the Flora in Tokyo and the Yomiuri Milers' Cup at Hanshin.

The Flora, for the 3yo fillies, went to a daughter of Screen Hero Cool Cat who started at 11.8.  She was given a cool ride by Christophe Lemaire and won by a length from Slyly, by Orfevre, who was on 88.3.  Faovourite Uberleben was only a nose away in third with May Thousand Hours a neck further back in fourth.

At Hanshin Cadence Call was a convincing winner finishing 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Al Jannah who was only a nose in front of Kaiser Minoru 27.6.  Daiwa Cagney and favourite Air Lolonois were not far behind.
