Super Saturday 2021

3 minute read

This is the end of the Meydan Carnival and the last chance for many to make it into the races on World Cup Day.

First up is the Dubai City of Gold G2 over 2400m on the turf and has 9 starters.  The top two in the market are Godolphin runners:  Walton Street on 8/11 for Appleby-Buick and Dubai Future for bin Suroor-Cosgrave on 3/1.  Dubai Warrior is on 5/1 for Gosden-Dettori.

The Mahab Al Shimaal G3 is on the dirt down the straight 1200m and 13 runners some of whom will be hoping to make it into the Al Quoz field.  Canvassed is on 5/2 for Watson-Dobbs despite an awful draw with stablemate Premier Star on 3/1 with Atzeni in the irons.  On 9/2 there is Bochart for Seemar-Mullen and Important Mission for bin Ghadayer and Barzalona.

The Burj Nahaar G3 is over 1600m on the dirt and has attracted 16 starters.  Midnight Sands for Watson-Dobbs and North America for Seemar-Mullen are both on 5/2 for a serious battle of the locals.  Bin Ghadayer-Barzalona are on 9/2 with Blown By Wind.

The Jebel Hatta G1 is over 1800m on the turf and has 11 runners.  Top of the market is tied between Al Suhail Appleby-Buick and David O'Meara and Danny Tudhope with Lord Glitters who seems to thrive in Dubai.  Art Du Val Appleby-Barzalona is on 5/1 together with Court House for Simon Crisford and Atzeni.

The final round of the Al Maktoum Challenge is G1 over 2000m on the dirt with 11 to run.  Salute the Solder won the previous leg and is on 5/2 for Fawzi Nasss and Adrie de Vries.  Secret Ambition is on 3/1 for Seemar-Mullen and Thegreatcollection who was second in the previous leg. Is on 4/1 for Watson-Dobbs.  We have a roughie here – Dubai Mirage for bin Suroor and Dettori on 20/1.  Could give some value to the multiplles.

The Nad Al Sheba Turf Spring is over 1200m and has 14 runners.  The Appleby runners Royal Crusade (Buick) and Man of Promise (Barzalona) are on 13/8 and 7/2.  Ekhtiyaar is 5/1 with Jim Crowley riding the Sheik Hamdan runner who comes from Doug Watson's yard.

Cue The Seekers singing "The Carnival is Over".
