Palace Pier too powerful in Lockinge

3 minute read

Newbury racegoers had a thrill seeing Palace Pier's win in the Lockinge.

The Gosdens exciting 4yo Kingman colt produced a run described by his jockey Frankie Dettori as going "whoosh" to produce his 6th win in 7 starts in the G1 mile.  He finished 1¼ lengths in front of our roughie Lady Bowthorpe who thrilled her connections with a very game finish even though she could not catch the winner.  Top Tank on 11/1 was third.  Lope y Fernandez may have sustained an injury as he was nursed home by Ryan Moore.

Two horses for the little black book (apart from Lady Bowthorpe who is already in it) are Al Aasy who won the G3 by 4 lengths, and John Leeper who won a Listed at Newmarket.  He's named after trainer Ed Dunlop's late father the legendary trainer and looks to be a very nice horse, which suits his name.  William Buick had the ride, which was part of a 4-timer.
