A big O'Brien weekend ahead

3 minute read

With top runners on both days at Epsom and Chantilly on Sunday it could be huge.

Starting off on Friday with the Coronation Cup G1 at Epsom over 2400m, Aidan O'Brien saddles Japan, on 10/3 with Ryan Moore riding and Mogul, 6/1 with Seamie Heffernan on board.   Both have been performing well in recent races but they are not the favourite here – that honour belongs to Al Aasy, who is on 5/6 as he heads for his first G1 in the colours of the late Sheik Hamdan.  William Haggas trains and Jim Crowley will ride.  There are 7 runners.

The Oaks is G1 over 2400m and has a field of 14.  O'Brien has been speaking very enthusiastically about Santa Barbara, a daughter of Camelot, who heads the market on 5/2.  Ryan Moore has the ride but this will be a big step up for the filly and one has to trust in her breeding here.  Stablemate Snowfall won the Musidora and has the measure of quite a number of opposers.  She's very interesting being by Japanese super-star and super sire Deep Impact out of a Galileo mare.  She's been demonstrating her talent and the possibility of much more to come so we like her on 4/1, with Dettori booked for the ride.

The English team is headed by two Roger Varian runners -Teana, by Sea The Stars and Zeyaadah, by Tamayaz, both on 5/1.
