Adayer wins King George

3 minute read

At Ascot on Saturday Adayer became the 14th horse to win the Derby-King George double.

The last one to do so was Galileo 20 years ago.  With recent hot weather the track was fast with Adayer lowering the record for the race and it obviously suited the Derby winner as he put paid to the older horses, winning by over a length to MishrIff second and Love, who did not seem to like the firm track, third.

Broome was used as a pacemaker and while we had hopes he might be able to keep going he got swamped in the last 200 metres.

As expected, Wonderful Tonight was a non-runner.

Earlier the Princess Margaret went to Zain Claudette 15/2 for Ismael Mohammed and Ray Dawson riding.  They were in a 3-way photo with favourite Desert Dreamer placed second and Delmona 11/1 a neck away from the daughter of No Nay Never.
