Meydan tracks on fire for Super Saturday

Records were set in 5 of the 7 races on the card for Super Saturday.

Walton Street's win in the Dubai City of Gold was also a track record as the odds-on favourite scored a 3 ½ lengths win for the Appleby-Buick Godolphin team.  Dubai Future ran second for the other Godolphin team who also collected the third money with Desert Fire.

Seems that Dubai Warrior didn't get the trip.

The Mahab Al Shimaal was the first of a double for Doug Watson and Pat Dobbs (which was nearly a treble) with Canvassed just managing to get his head in front of Good Effort 10/1 and Lavaspin was third 40/1.

And the Watson-Dobbs team repeated the win and another record in the Burj Nahaar with Midnight Sands.  Chiefdom was 2 ¼ lengths away second with his head just in front of Tuz,

The Jebel Hatta was one of the two races not to be won in record time as Lord Glitters continued his happy relationship with Meydan and looks to continue it in the Dubai Turf.  Equitraan was second on 33/1 with favourite Al Suhail a short head away in third for Appleby-Buick.

The third round of the Al Maktoum Challenge saw Salute The Solder add this trophy to his win in the second round for a delighted Fawzi Nass and Adrie de Vries.  Hypothetical was 1 ¾ lengths away in second on 11/2 and third went to Roman Rosso, an Argentinian bred now with Satish Seemar and who started on 9/1.

The Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint was a bit of an upset when Final Song won at 17/2 by a head from Motafaawit (this could have been the treble for Watson-Dobbs but they missed by a nostril) and Acklam Express.  This was the other race where the record wasn't broken.

The overseas runners have already started to arrive but the locals look like they have laid down the challenge in a few of the races on the Dubai Cup program.
