The first half of the program went to the favourites, the second half didn't.

Starting with the Torrey Pines where Private Mission complied and defeated I's So Anna and Forest Caraway without too many problems.

The Del Mar Mile on the turf went to Mo Forza with Smooth Like Strait second of the six runners.

Then the Del Mar Oaks went to Going Global, with Closing Remarks second and some support for Fluffy Socks who ran third – could the name be the influence there? 

Then we come to the upsets starting with the Pacific Classic where John Sadler's Tripoli won on 13/2 with T-J Pereira in the irons.  I zamagician was ¼ length second on 7/1 and the fancied Dr Post third.

And the Del Mar Handicap went to Astronaut – Shirriffs-Espinoza – on 24/1, with the Chilean-bred son of Mastercraftsman Master Piece second on 30/1 and Acclimate third on 10/1.

Over at Saratoga the favourites fared well with Technical Analysis winning the Lake Placid from Runaway Rumour and Ego Trip.  Spanish Loveaffair was 4th of the 6 runners.

And the Alabama wet to the even-money fav Mafathaat for Todd Pletcher and John Velazquez with Clairiere 8/1 second and Army Wife third of the 7 runners.
