Arc Trials at Longchamp Sunday

3 minute read

It's not guaranteed to find the Arc winner but it can help eliminate some candidates.

The Prix Niel is G2 for the 3yo over 2000m and has 6 starters.  Bolshoi Ballet has been traveling and is being given cheek pieces so it is hoped that a return to Europe and said decorations will all assist Frankie Dettori in getting him over the line.  While the European horses have not been as promising as the Anglo-Irish runners Andre Fabre's runners should not be ruled out and he saddles two of them here and we are considering Timour as our roughie here – on 22/1.

The Prix Vermeille G1 is for f&m over the Arc trip of 2400m.  Snowfall is looking more and more like her sire and is on track to achieve the result that he just failed to achieve.  She's on 2/7.  Stablemate Joan of Arc does well in France and is on 9/1 with Ioritz Mendizabal booked for the ride.  Dettori rides Snowfall as Ryan Moore is on duty in Ireland.

The Prix Foy G2 over 2400m is for 4y+ runners and 6 to line up.  Local hopes are resting on Jérôme Reynier's Skaletti who is on 5/4.  Our beloved Broome is on 10/3 and there is the interesting Japanese runner Deep Bond (no he's not by Deep Impact – by Kizuna) who is on 4/1, with his assistant trainer saying he will use the race to learn the course!

Also on the card the Prix du Petit Couvert is over the Moulin course 1000m and had 13 starters.  It's quite open with the market having Benneull on 4/1, Ocean on 5/1, Ideal Beauty 6/1 and last year's winner and our friend Air De Valse on 9/1.

The Prix du Pin is G3 over 1400m and here we are staying with the form and going for Sagamiyra on 2/1 and Tropbeau on 10/3.

On Thursday at Longchamp Ancient Rome won the Prix des Chênes with out tip Scherzo second.  The Fabre pair of Fleur d'Iris and Zellie quinellad the Prix d'Aumale.
