Bolshoi Ballet leads a fine dance in the Derby Trial

3 minute read

We said in the preview that this Galileo colt could be special.

He led virtually the whole way and was far too good for the rest of the field as second home Lough Derg was 6 lengths away and Fernando Vichi 25/1 was half a length behind him.  This was part of a 4-timer for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore and a double for the Galileo products.

Joan of Arc, the other Galileo, won the 1000 Guineas Trial by 1 ¾ lengths to the 50/1 shot Flirting Bridge who in turn was 1 ¾ lengths away in third.  The second and third placed horses were no match for the winner who is turning into a very nice filly and one who could go even further on good ground (which had turned into soft at Leopardstown).

Earlier the Amethyst Stakes went to Maker of Kings who won by 1 ¼ lengths from Erdzindjan and Ace Aussie a neck away third.
