Hurrah for Hiroo

Dubai's Carnival got underway on Friday (Dubai time).

GOLDEN GOAL.

And the G2 Cape Verdi saw a win for Hiroo Shimazu's Pevensey Bay.  Shimazu is Japanese but trains in France and on this occasion handed the reins to Olivier Peslier with a happy result.  Pevensey Bay was in our tips but the second horse wasn't – that was Ascot Brass who was on 40/1 with Wedding Dance third.  Favourite Soft Whisper was very dsappointing finishing at the wrong end of the field.

The other G2 on the card, the first round of the Al Maktoum Challenge, saw Doug Watson's Golden Goal salute at 20/1 with Sam Hitchcott on board.  They defeated Secret Ambition and Kafoo who had been sharing the favourite tag.

One to watch out for from the undercard is Bet Law from Uruguay, who was winning his third consecutive start this time by 4 ½ lengths.  Trained by A Cintra Pereira he was ridden by Vagner Borges.
