Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Rosehill Race 2 - 8 Queen Of Kariba

Plenty of upside about this Lonhro filly who already has two wins on the board from four starts. She was too good for a C1 field first-up at the Newcastle Cup carnival in September and then went seven weeks before she reappeared over 1200m at Randwick on November 4.

She worked the line strongly from the back half after covering ground from a wide gate then. Expect she will have taken improvement from that run and the switch from an apprentice to Blake Shinn enhances her chances.

Rosehill Race 6 - 5 Generalife

Returns to his favourite track where he has won three of his five starts after a solid Melbourne carnival campaign where he was placed in all three starts in strong Group company.

He is dropping 2kg off his last start when he just failed to gun down Fast ‘N’ Rocking in the G3 Heffernan Stakes (1300m) at Sandown after he was beaten less than a length by subsequent G1 winner Hucklebuck over 1400m at Flemington. Hard to beat from favourable draw if he runs to that form.

Rosehill Race 8 - 11 Commanding Wit

This genuine mare has had little go right for her in recent starts, especially last start over this course and distance when badly held up at the critical time that cost her a win.

Facing tougher company but she’s down 2kg and can atone from a good draw as she should respond well to the positive riding change from a novice apprentice to Kerrin McEvoy.
