Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Randwick Race 4 - 2 Araaja

This imported mare was a Listed winner of four races in France up to 2000m and they included two in seriously soft ground, strong credentials that have her well placed in this class to record her first Australian win after her two promising local starts for the Waller stable.

No doubt those two runs have improved her fitness and she is certain to take beating with the expected progress from her luckless last start third over this trip at Rosehill on May 19.

Randwick Race 8 - 6 I Thought So

Heavily supported at first start for the Snowden stable when resuming over this course and distance on May 26 and was unlucky not to land the money when caught on the line by Dreamforce after his rider was inconvenienced in the straight.

These conditions suit as he boasts a strong Randwick record and has been out of the money only once on slow and heavy tracks. He has been costly in the past but confident he’s the one in this field with the most scope for improvement under his new management.

Randwick Race 9 - 9 Star Reflection

Honest Newcastle-trained mare ran well for us last time at good odds without the best of luck when finishing third behind the smart Missile Coda over 1200m at Rosehill on May 19, taking her frustrating record on city tracks to eight placings from 10 metropolitan starts.

This could be her chance with her big liking for affected tracks, a wide draw that is certain to be a bonus late in the day and favourable weight after the 2kg claim for her apprentice rider.
