Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Rosehill Race 6 - 5 Schubert

Godolphin have this Lonhro 4YO ready to peak at his third run back from a spell, following a pattern that has been successful with him in the past.

He has put in two sound efforts since resuming under bigger handicaps when the circumstances of both races went against him, having no luck first-up over 1100m at Warwick Farm and then disadvantaged by an affected Kensington when it was hard for horses to make ground from the back half.

The conditions of this race over 1300m suit him admirably as he has won twice over this trip, boasts solid Rosehill form and drops nicely in weight.

Rosehill Race 7 - 8 Dawn Dawn

Progressive mare from the Hawkes yard sets up nicely for this company coming off her he eye catching first-up seventh over 1200m in Group 3 company at Caulfield when she came from last to finish two lengths behind the classy Winter Bride.

I have a lot of respect for the talented Newsfan but Dawn Dawn holds big scope for improvement, being a winner of her only start at Rosehill and well placed down in the weights with only a half kilo over the limit.

Rosehill Race 9 - 8 Fierce Impact

Another border hopper coming back to Sydney from an admirable second up performance in Group One company in the Toorak Handicap at Caulfield when he made up late ground to finish eighth behind Land Of Plenty.

That followed an excellent first-up placing over 1400m at this course in this class and he makes a lot of appeal coming back to this grade off his latest run that reflects the opinion held of him by his connections.

Confident we are yet to see the best of this talented import by Deep Impact.

Rosehill (Sat) - Ronstar (R2), Red Excitement (R4), Newsfan (R7), Hussterical (R7) and Royal Tudor (R8)

Ronstar (Warwick Farm 24 September) - Talented 3YO was always in control of his open trial despite some early pressure and had plenty in hand on the line running the fastest time of the 801m heats (46.54/32.80). Very professional effort although the smart CRADLE MOUNTAIN was an eye-catching second after he had to change course and go to the inside to finish strongly in last 100m. Ronstar has since added two more noted trials at Warwick Farm on October 8 and October 23.

Cradle Mountain (Randwick 15 October) - Talented sprinter reeled in a tearaway leader easily in the last 200m to record a strong win without being tested. He’s had two trials and is ready to resume.

Flemington (Sat) - Lanciato (R3) and Mister Sea Wolf (R8)

Newcastle (Sat) - Kedah (R1), Shen Gui (R3), Checksum (R5), Mimic (R5), Sazavee (R5), Fabricator (R6), Laguna Mountains (R6), Lucky Mission (R6), Monsieur Bronx (R6) and Nordicus (R6)

Monsieur Bronx (Warwick Farm 19 October) - Third trial and first since June for this unraced Manhattan Rain 4YO who has obviously been given plenty of time to develop. Controlled his 1175m heat easily from the jump and then extended strongly to win by 5.5 lengths with plenty in hand.

Goulburn (Sun) - Fabricator (R5) and Nordicus (R5)

Muswellbrook (Sun) - Bubbles Ball (R2) and Kedah (R7)

Chris’ final observations and full audio preview of all Sydney races will be available after 9.30am Saturday on the R&S website and tweeted by @ScholtzRacing.
