Billie's big step: Hardacre filly primed for Clare Lindop Stakes

3 minute read

Peter Hardacre is excited to see where unbeaten filly Billie Bronx measures up against some quality opposition when she tackles Saturday’s $107,250 Listed Clare Lindop Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville.

Peter Hardacre has been eyeing an Oaks path with the daughter of Manhattan Rain after she scored a dominant 8.4 length win at Murray Bridge on debut back in November before resuming with a Morphettville Parks win in March.

"I'm really really happy with the horse,'' Hardacre said.

It's a three-year-old feature loaded with depth including Zennzella from the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable who won the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes in the spring before running fourth in the VRC Oaks and the Anthony and Sam Freedman -trained As Time Goes By  who finished just behind her in the same race.

"The race has obviously come up very strong,'' Hardacre said.

"But in saying that I'm excited to see where she fits in this sort of class.

"She's drawn well and I'm really looking forward to the race,'' he said.

Morphettville trainer Travis Doudle is confident his filly Kiki Express can run a forward race from a good barrier despite being beaten at Morphettville last time out.

"She was good the other day with the big weight,'' Doudle said.

"She's not a big filly so her run was good all things considered,'' he said.

As Time Goes By is marked a $4.80 favourite with tab.com.au ahead of Billie Bronx ($5) with Kiki Express on the third line of betting at $6.
