Promising youngster Peregrination is racing at the top of his game but trainer Richard Litt admits he will need to take another step up at Kembla Grange on Sunday.
The son of Odyssey Moon has saluted at his past two starts and has done so impressively, putting a wide margin on his rivals in sensational fashion on both occasions.
Peregrination broke his maiden with a dominant 3-1/2 length success on the Canberra Acton surface in July before racing away for a commanding 4-3/4 length triumph at Goulburn last start on a heavy track.
He will look to complete the hat-trick in the Greg Lee Benchmark 64 Handicap (1200m) and is rated a $3.60 second elect with TAB fixed odds.
"He looks like a real wet tracker which he is not going to get on Sunday but he's a nice horse," Litt said.
"It's whether he can do the same on good ground.
"He has been racing well but it's a bit of a step up for him so we will see how he goes."
Peregrination returns to Kembla after making his debut at the track in January when finishing fourth in a race that was won by subsequent Group 2 Percy Sykes winner Jamaea.
The gelding, which will officially be three on Sunday, has drawn favourably in barrier one and has the luxury of being guided by seasoned jockey Grant Buckley at his fourth start.
Litt will also bring another lightly-raced three-year-old to Kembla with Roccaforte set to make his return from a spell in the Jason Lee CG&E Maiden Plate (1200m).
Roccaforte, a son of Snitzel, is first up from a 19 week spell after finishing third in his debut at Canterbury on January 29.
Litt has called upon the services of Buckley again and the hoop will need every bit of his experience after Roccaforte drew barrier 18 in his fresh assignment.
"He's first up from a terrible gate so that will make the job a little harder," Litt said.
"We will just need to have him wherever he is comfortable and hope for the best.
"I am happy with the horse. He's a nice horse."
Roccaforte is rated a $19 chance in betting with the Matt Dunn-trained Head Legislator holding favouritism at $3.80.
Sunday is the first of two meetings at Kembla this week with racing returning to the provincial circuit on Thursday.
