Narrung Stud to sell as Smith family end the Exalted era

3 minute read

Leading South Australian owner/breeders Ken and Helen Smith are set to call an end to their time in South Australian racing.

The Smith family will offer their stock through a dispersal sale via an online auction kicking off on Thursday with bloodstockauction.com.

"The time has come,'' Helen Smith said in a statement.

"Ken is not in the best of health and managing such a significant bloodstock business requites a lot of drive and attention,'' she said.

The 'Exalted' name has been a regular in South Australian form guides for decades with the Smith's greatest moment coming in 2006 when they won the Adelaide Cup with Exalted Time under Clare Lindop.

45 lots including racehorses, foals, yearlings, and unraced stock are being sold and will be auctioned from Thursday May 26 through until Tuesday May 31, while their Narrung property of the shores of Lake Albert will be sold by Sam Hayes from Toop and Toop Rural.

"Narrung Stud has always known success and while it's the end of one chapter it is also the start of another,'' Hayes said.

"The is fertile farming land and will continue to deliver,'' he said.
