Behemoth returned to David Jolly's Goolwa stable two weeks ago and will follow a proven path to Melbourne, but another $15m Everest tilt is off the table.

"I'm really happy with him,'' Jolly said.

"He seems really well.

"He'll follow the same path as last year without the Everest involved,'' he said.

Behemoth won the last year's Group 3 Spring Stakes at Morphettville before his Group 1 breakthrough in the Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

He followed that with another impressive Group 1 win in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over the 1400m before he went to Sydney and finished down the track in 10th spot behind Classique Legend in the $15m Everest (1200m).

The five-year-old returned to racing in January winning the Durbridge Stakes at Morphettville, finished fourth in the Futurity Stakes behind Probabeel before his game effort running third in the All-Star Mile.

Jolly said his one-off mission when seventh behind Savatoxl at in the Group 1 Goodwood at Morphettville in May had the horse holding some residual fitness for the 2021 Group 3 Spring Stakes (1000m) at Morphettville on August 14.

"We'll just keep chipping away at him slowly,'' Jolly said.

"But it (Spring Stakes) comes around pretty quickly.

"The Goodwood run has kept a bit of fitness about him and it a good time to get him out of the paddock, the weather has turned pretty quickly so getting into the stable isn't a bad thing,'' he said.

With The Everest off the table connections may look to again stretch out to the mile in the Cantala Stakes at Flemington on October 30.
