What a day for the First Lady of racing, @GaiWaterhouse1.@clarkyhk @aus_turf_club pic.twitter.com/W3jfL2Umat
Winning Trainer: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott (Adrian comments)
On the win: "Very glad with that. The connections have been so patient with her. She was a consistent filly without winning. She was thoroughly deserving of that so glad to see it."
On the race set up: "We wanted to take advantage of that inside draw. She has that good tactical speed that we saw today. We could be aggressive early and let her get into a nice rhythm. From there it was pretty comfortable and she looked happy. I knew she was going to give a good kick from the 600m and be hard to run down from that position."
Onto The Invitation?: "Would love an Invitation. That was the plan to come here today. We thought this would be the nice race second up where she could improve and try to win and we thought today was crucial in getting that invitation. Even though her record has been consistent we needed a win like that today to state our case and hopefully she has done that for us."
Winning Jockey: Tim Clark
On her change of luck: "Her record probably should read a little bit better than the one win. Whether it has been bad luck in running or even wet tracks which she is probably better on top of the ground. She got a really good set up today - dry track, was able to control and get things her own way and she always improves with a run under her belt as well so she was always going to come here and be hard to beat."
On the latest prep: "She is not a big strong mare but she has plenty of fight and showed plenty of heart there when she was challenged at the furlong. I was really proud of her and there are some nice races coming up for her and I'm sure Gai and Adrian will be looking forward to getting her to them."
On the In The Congo ride: "Might even go a bit quicker."
Beaten Jockeys:
Nash Rawiller (Forbidden Love): "I think a couple of runs on hard tracks in a row has started to worry her a bit. She is a different horse with the sting out of the ground."
James McDonald (Entriviere): "Ran well. Would have been happier with the sting out of the track."
Jason Collett (Madam Rouge): "Ran well. Didn't have a lot of room to play with in the straight."
Rachel King (Nimalee): "Just a bad gate got her beat today but she is flying."
Hugh Bowman (Fituese): "Very courageous."
Sam Clipperton (Marboosha): "An OK effort. She just held ground behind the leaders."
Kerrin McEvoy (Icebath): "Really good run. She ended up awkwardly placed on the rail. She can go out to a mile now and really enjoy that extra furlong. She will run well in the Epsom."
Robbie Dolan (Pippali): "Wants further."
