3 minute read

Moe, Avoca and Colac will provide plenty of Anzac Day family entertainment at themed meetings on Sunday.

Moe rewards those horses that can stay with the inaugural running of the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport Cup over 3320m, a race that will take a special place in current racing annals.

It will be the longest flat race in Australia, being 120 metres longer than the Melbourne Cup.

There are 12 nominations, including three from trainer Eric Musgrove.

Patrons at Moe can enjoy a flag raising ceremony at 12.45pm, an Aussie Food Court and legalised two-up from 2pm.

The club is also hosting a "Raceday Starsearch".

Patrons can sing either the National Anthem or Waltzing Matilda with a view to being selected to perform on Moe Cup Day.

The meeting also features children's entertainment and a display by the Morwell Rose Garden Committee.

In its 14th year, the Avoca Pyrenees Vignerons Gourmet Food and Wine Raceday boast 15 local wineries and additional gourmet food stalls on course.

Besides the action-packed races, entertainment will be on hand with legalised two-up, Ballarat's Biggish Band and children's activities including face painting, animal farm, pacer carts and merry-go-round.

Picnic racing comes to a close for the season with the Colac St. Patrick's Picnic Races.

There will be six races as well as plenty of musical entertainment.

Award-winning Billy Bridge and Hillbilly Heat will delight the hearts of country music fans, youngsters can enjoy Battle of the Bands winner The Vascoe Era, there will be funk tap group Swift's Rhythm Hoofers, a junior buskers competition, pony rides and food stalls.
