Chinchilla Rose a filly of the future

Trainer Steele Ryan believes his flying juvenile Chinchilla Rose has the potential to become the best three-year-old filly in Australia.

Trainer Steele Ryan believes his flying juvenile Chinchilla Rose has the potential to become the best three-year-old filly in Australia.

The two-year-old Queenslander gets her chance to shine in the Group One Sires' Produce (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Chinchilla Rose is coming off a seventh to Forensics in Saturday's $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill where she jumped from barrier 11.

That performance bolstered Ryan's already high opinion of the Lion Hunter filly who was ridden by Stathi Katsidis.

"It was a first-class run. It was only her third start and in the end her inexperience showed through and that was always a concern for me and owner Ken Turner," Ryan said.

"It would have been nice to draw a good alley and be two or three lengths closer early but it goes to show how much potential this horse has that we're talking about those things costing her victory.

"We could be looking at the best three-year-old filly in the country once she matures."

Ryan said Chinchilla Rose would appreciate the extra distance of the next two legs of the triple crown, the Sires and the Champagne Stakes (1600m) on April 14.

"We were always confident that the Sires and the Champagne were more suitable races for her," he said.

"She basically doesn't have a lot of clues on what racing is all about but I'm sure once she gets her chance in longer races we'll see her at her best."

The Queensland trainer said the filly has pulled up tremendously after the Golden Slipper.

"She's wasn't spent early unlike other horses up the top who had tough runs. But I had my vet look over her and she's bright to the eye," Ryan said.

"She'll have a three-quarter (pace) run on Thursday just so Stathi can have a go on her at something better than a trot or canter."
