HEALESVILLE: Easter Meeting Will Be Special

3 minute read

Although fire ravaged neighbouring surrounds, the picturesque Healesville racecourse escaped the Black Saturday wrath.

Now the Healesville Amateur Racing Club wants families to visit the region and assist local businesses this Easter, starting with the CFA Bushfire Benefit Race Day where all gate proceeds will go to local CFA brigades and HICCI who support the homeless of Healesville.

HARC president John O'Neill, who lost part of his home along Steel Creeks Road but was much more fortunate than many of his neighbours, said a successful family race day was important for the community.

“We as a town are suffering economically and want to encourage people to come back to Healesville and the region.

"We need people coming from Melbourne and other outlying areas to spend money in the region.

"We'd love families to stay for the Easter weekend, have a meal in a local restaurant, buy a drink at the pub and just enjoy the break,” O'Neill said.

“Where I'm living at the moment it is just black sticks, but the racecourse was missed and is a sea of green at present.”

O”Neill added that the race club was endeavouring to do as much as possible to attract events and visitors to the region.

“There are a number of upcoming events including a couple of concerts, the circus and last week we had a successful market. These are part of the push to attract people of all ages to the region,” O'Neill said.

Healesville's Easter Saturday race meeting will be a CFA Bushfire Benefit Day, with plenty of entertainment for all the family, especially the children.

The Easter Bunny will be there and for the first 300 children through the gate, there will be a showbag containing an Easter egg and vouchers from local traders.
