COLERAINE: Second Chance For Last Jumps Races

3 minute read

Last Sunday's cancelled Coleraine has been re-scheduled for October 10 with a massive prizemoney boost for the feature jumps races.

The new meeting will feature a $60,000 steeplechase and a $20,000 hurdle .

Last Sunday's meeting, called off due to wet conditions, was to feature the last two jumps races of the season.

Coleraine secretary John Donnelly is thrilled that the club has been given approval to hold another meeting on the lucrative Caulfield Guineas day.

"When I got the news it took a while to pick myself up off the floor," he said.

"We've gone from boiled lollies to old gold."

"Most of the time the racing calendar is that full a club just has to walk away.

"There was surface water on the track and we agreed entirely with the decision to call it off but the track dries out very quickly and we trialled on the track two days later."

"I think because the jumps people have been hammered with meetings being called off that RVL decided to give owners, trainers and jockeys one last bite of the cherry.”

The distance of the steeplechase has been reduced from 4200m to 3400m.
