Goodwin rethinks Magic Millions

Chinchilla trainer Mark Goodwin has two million reasons to head towards next month's Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast with I'm The One.

Trainer Mark Goodwin has two million reasons to head towards next month's Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast with I'm The One following the youngster's narrow win at Eagle Farm.

I'm The One bullocked his way through a narrow gap over the final 200 metres to edge out the Gillian Heinrich-trained Internal Revenue by a long head in Saturday's Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1000m).

I'm The One was the first city winner for Group winning sire All Bar One who was trained by Heinrich and raced by her husband, Hoss Heinrich.

The gelding has become a bargain buy after being sold for $6500 at the Magic Millions yearling sales in January.

"At $6500 he certainly is a bargain," the Chinchilla based Goodwin said.

"We were thinking of putting him out in the paddock to let him develop more but maybe we'll go again to the Magic Millions now."

The $2 million Magic Millions Classic (1200m) will be run at the Gold Coast on January 15.

I'm The One was having only his third race start and was coming off a close second to Like A Bird at Ipswich eight days ago.

Heinrich wasn't disappointed with Internal Revenue's defeat.

"I don't mind getting beaten this time. The winner is by All Bar One and it was his first city winner and it came in a Listed race," Heinrich said.

Heinrich got her revenge in the following race when Military Grace scored a long neck win over Midnight Minx in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1000m).

Military Grace's victory gave Heinrich successive wins in the feature following Military Rose's victory last year.

"It's nice to win this race two years in a row with a filly by the same sire (General Nediym)," Heinrich said.

Military Grace cost $100,000 as a yearling and also will head to the Magic Millions Classic.

"She's a good filly and Michael Rodd still says had he not gone too soon she would have won the day she ran second at Flemington in the spring," she said.

"Mentally and physically she's verysimilar to Military Rose."

Military Grace will have her final start before the Magic Millions Classic in the Listed B J McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Boxing Day.

"I don't think she's a 1000 metre horse and she'll go a lot better over 1200 metres," Heinrich said.
