Jardin Aims At Summer Scorcher

3 minute read

Speedy WA galloper Grand Jardin will aim for back to back feature races when he lines up in the Saturday's $100,000 Listed Schweppes-Summer Scorcher (1000m) at Ascot.

The Bruce Watkins trained galloper was beaten at Pinjarra first-up but has sicne won three of his four runs including a dominant display in the Listed R.S. Crawford Stakes last start.

The son of Redoute's Choice has recovered well according to trained Bruce Watkins, who puts confidence down to the form turn around.

"He is learning how to breathe again and he is slowly growing in confidence. I am happy with the way he has pulled up and think he will be a great chance in the Summer Scorcher." Watkins told perthracing.com.au

Grand Jardin displayed dazzling speed when winning at Ascot on November 2nd and 20th, but was then stepped up to Weight For Age class in the Winterbottom Stakes.

"He was tailed off in the Winterbottom and was very slow to recover after the race. He slipped at the start and never looked comfortable from there on in. I think the one week back up worked against him and I was quietly confident he would run a much better race in the Crawford Stakes last start." Watkins added.

Jason Whiting will maintain the ride in the Summer Scorcher, after picking up the ride from Jarrad Noske, who was sidelined through suspension.
