It took all of Ryan's guile to lift the favourite Surpassing to a neck win at the Coonamble matinee meeting.

Ryan has now ridden 2700½ winners during his career, with only five of his winners recorded outside NSW.

The five "outside" wins were in Queensland (three wins) and Tasmania (two).

Incredibly the majority of his wins have come since the 1993-94 racing season, having booted home just 49 winners in his first four years of riding prior to that season.

Making the achievement even more remarkable is the fact that Ryan didn’t start his jockey apprenticeship until aged 25. Previously he worked as a motor mechanic.

Ryan, the leading NSW country jockey for 13 successive seasons, is currently a clear leader for the NSW jockey title with 84 win, more than 20 ahead of Robert Thompson.

At the other end of the riding spectrum young Dubbo apprentice Sarah Trebley made an impact with an upset win in Sunday’s Parkes Cup in the central west of NSW on the outsider Cashout.

Cashout, a nine-year-old gelding trained by Trebley’s master Michael Mulholland, was a $45 chance, but led all the way to give Trebley only her second career win.

With the advantage of a 4kg claim, Cashout held on to beat the favourite Clever Hans - ridden by Greg Ryan!

* PORT Macquarie has gained a second senior jockey in a month with Terry Treichel returning from Queensland to link with the Wayne Wilkes stable.

Treichel, who left Kempsey six years ago to base himself at the Gold Coast, decided to return to his home area after a lengthy lay off due to injury.

Successful Sydney jockey Robbie Brewer has also moved to Port Macquarie to join the Neil Godbolt stable, filling the void left by the enforced retirement of Marlon Dolendo due to a severe illness.

Wilkes, who trains for the Tinkler family, has lost his apprentice Melissa Brown after she decided to cut her ties with the stable and take a holiday from riding.
