Doomben track in perfect order

3 minute read

The Doomben track is in perfect condition for the queen of the turf Black Caviar's race in the $400,000, Group 1, WFA Bundaberg Distilling Co BTC Cup (1200m) on Saturday according to Brisbane Racing Club track manager Bill Shuck.

The rail for the eight race programme is in the true position and this section has not been raced on for eight weeks.

“We have left it as a Dead 5 at this stage,” said Shuck on Sky Sports Radio on Friday morning.

“We have done a fair bit of aeration so we decided we would run the light roller round it to tighten it up a little bit so I am expecting that after lunch we will be at a Dead 4.

“Up here winter tracks are different to summer tracks and there is not much difference between a Good 3 and A Dead 4 as far as I am concerned and we have the track cherry ripe.

"It is over eight weeks since we raced in the true position and it is just a carpet of grass.

“Everything has gone to plan for Doomben on preparation for the winter. We tried to give the inside as long as we could.

“In saying that the middle of our tracks get a hammering but we have had a good month off at Doomben and we have aerated it and done everything that could be done to that track has been done. It is 100 percent even from the inside to the outside fence and it is in beautiful condition,” he said.

While there are still tickets available to the course, as at Friday morning, officials are expecting a capacity crowd for the meeting with unprecedented media and public interest in Black Caviar's first Queensland appearance.

Brisbane's weather is playing its part with a fine day on Friday and 22c, with similar conditions for Saturday.
