Legacy Form Lines Tested At Flemington

3 minute read

Promising metropolitan winner Anabaa's Legacy will return from an injury enforced layoff in Saturday's $75,000 Isca 3YO Fillies Handicap (1000m) at Flemington.

The Dean Binaisse-trained Anabaa's Legacy resumes on Saturday in the $75,000 Isca Handicap (1000m) more than seven months after bone chips were discovered in her knees following a disappointing last at Morphettville's Listed City Of Marion Stakes (1200m).

Binaisse is pleased with how the speedy filly has recovered from the injury and also matured.

“I'm disappointed she has had these leg problems because she is probably one of the fastest horses I've ever trained,” Binaisse said.

“Some of the sectional times she reels off are unbelievable.

“She pulled up with bone chips in her knees at Adelaide which is why she ran so poorly.

“She's had the chips removed, a spell and she has trialled up fantastic at Mornington in some jump-outs there.

“She is bigger, stronger, her legs seem really good so I am looking forward to seeing her race on Saturday.”

Anabaa's Legacy is currently rated a $7.50 chance in the event with TAB Sportsbet Fixed Odds behind Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained Star Of Giselle.

The filly has drawn wide in barrier 10 although should quickly negate this by heading to the front under the guidance of apprentice Adam McCabe if her first race campaign is anything to go by.

“I think she will run a nice race first up,” Binaisse said.

“She has done quite a bit of work and she is fairly forward.

“The track at Flemington should have a nice bit of give in it which should be perfect for her knees and perfect for her action. I am really looking forward to having her go around.”

Anabaa's Legacy recorded three wins from six starts during her first race campaign with the form since holding up well.

A key example is Anabaa's Legacy's first weekend metropolitan success in a Ratings 72 3YO Fillies Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley last November where three of her rivals [Annlea, Lady Pania, Little Artist] have since gone on to record city wins.

“When you look at her form around Annlea and others, everything that has been close to her in races have gone on and won. Some of the owners have won a fortune following the Anabaa's Legacy form.”

The daughter of Anabaa the run prior to her own metropolitan win finished midfield behind another capable filly in Curtana when contesting the Listed Gucci Stakes (1200m) at Flemington during Oaks Day.

“If you look back through that form behind Curtana it holds up well also,” Binaisse said.

“The track was pretty greasy and slippery that day where there were some speedy horses in the race.

“She led those horses up on her ear but unfortunately when we asked her for more she was skidding around and couldn't really quicken on that wet track.”

Curtana has since gone on to record additional metropolitan wins as has Spurcific who also recorded an additional weekend city success at Flemington on June 25 after recording her first black type placing in the Listed A.R Creswick Stakes (1200m) the previous fortnight.

Also rans in the Gucci Stakes, Parriwi and Celts each recorded Listed placings during the autumn while Robert Smerdon-trained Lone Rock claimed the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville during her next preparation.
