BROKEN HILL: Going Green For St Pat's Race Day

3 minute read

The annual Broken Hill St Patrick's Race Club meeting on Saturday breaks new ground in 2012 because for the first time since its first meeting in 1966 the club will race on St Patrick's Day itself.

To celebrate the town is “going green” with more than 50 retail businesses this week outfitting staff in bright green shirts emblazoned with “see you there.”

The St Pat's Race Club's secretary-manager Cheryl Krutli expects a record crowd to celebrate St Patrick's Day by attending and taking part in the festivities.

“This year we're introducing the Green Room, just for the young at heart with DJs from Adelaide, Mildura and Broken Hill, and it's totally sold out with 400 people buying entry tickets,” she said.

“We also have a brand new Stout and Oyster Bar and we'll have 600 dozen oysters brought in from Coffin Bay.”

The club is also providing more than $20,000 in prizes for Fashions on the Field, including categories for Junior Colleen, Junior Paddy, and the Colleen and Paddy of the Course.

Fine weather is forecast for Saturday, which is a relief to the club after the 2011 fixture was washed out.

Saturday's full TAB meeting on Broken Hill's dirt track will be covered on Sky 2.
