Trainer Mick Kent said Backbone may have booked a trip to Sydney for the G1 Australian Derby after posting a dominant win in the $100,000 Listed Galilee Series Final (2400m) at Mornington.

The son of Mossman was tackling 2400m for the first time and showed excxellent staying talent to beat Tasmanian Oaks winner Rock Robster by 1.75 lengths.

Kent said he has to weight p a quick tip to Sydney for the Randwick classic against a start for the gelding in the $500,000 South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville on May 5.

The feature success brought up a winning double for jockey Brad Rawiller at Mornington aftr a success aboard the David Hayes-trained Count La Za.

At Stawell Constant Force added another country feature win to his successful autumn when he landed the $50,000 Stawell Cup for Warrnambool trainers Bill and Simon Wilde.

Constant Force claimed his fifth win this campaign when he beat his veteran stable mate Hissing Sid to add the Stawell Cup to his Colac Cup success in February.

Dean Yendall took off on the favourite Constant Force approaching the 800m and set up an unassailable lead turning for home.

Despite his winning form Yendall suggested Constant Force may be coming to the end of his preparation despite the lure of the coming Warrnambool carnival.

“He is in good form and in really good racing order to back up three weeks in a row and to do what he has done,” Yendall said.

“Bill and Simon have just got to pick the right races for him because we're not really sure if he is as capable on a soft track so he might see the end of his prep within the next month."

Hissing Sid was showed an impressive turn-of-foot in the straight and looks on target to chase a historic third win in the $200,000 Warrnambool Cup (2350m) on May 3.
