Local jockey Marlon Dolendo takes over from Newcastle apprentice Alex Stokes who rode a masterful race two starts back to win the Taree Cup on the veteran front runner.

However Cashin said there was no hidden agenda in her decision.

“I thought Alex might have been wanted by her master to ride in the cup and I didn’t want to be waiting until the last minute to book a rider,” Cashin said.

“Marlon has ridden the The Paymaster several times before, he knows him well and he will ride him the in the prelude and the cup.

“In fact Marlon rode the horse when he won his maiden at Taree three years ago.”

The Prelude is the lead up to the $80,000 Port Macquarie Cup (2000m) on October 5.

Top weight Slick Sniper has been scratched by trainer Tracey Bartley after he suffered a leg injury.

“His leg came up after acceptances and I had no option,” Bartley said.

“We wanted to go on to the Port Cup but that is unlikely because he would have needed this run.”

Falklands, trained by Bartley’s brother in law Marc Quinn, will be hard to beat.

Quinn has timed the horse’s preparation to perfection with the Prelude being his fourth run back after his last start win over 1818m at Port Macquarie.

Quinn also runs his talented mare Pentasia in the $30,000 Benchmark 70, the lead up to the Patinack Farm Sprint on Port Cup day.

She has not raced since finishing seventh at Rosehill five weeks ago but has had the benefit of a trial win at Taree last Tuesday.

“She got a bit of a temperature after Rosehill and we had to treat her but fortunately she did not miss much work,” Quinn said.

“She needed that trial rather than just a gallop to have her ready for Sunday.

“After that we have several options.

“She could go to the Patinack then on to The Nivison at Randwick next month or we might her put her away for a little break then get her ready for Brisbane in the summer.

“They have some nice black type mares races in Brisbane over summer.

“The Nivison is Listed and we want to get some black type around her ready for when she goes to stud."
