Like All Too Hard and Pierro before him, Your Song took on the older horses but gave them a galloping lesson, despite the heavy going and being first up from a spell.

Ridden by Peter Robl, Your Song settled fourth in the run, one off the fence behind Rain Affair who led the field along. Favoured runner, Buffering, missed the jumped and struggled throughout.

Rain Affair led the field around the turn but at the 350m Robl asked Your Song for his best effort and the race was over within 50m as he streeted his rivals to score one of the easiest of group 1 victories.

The margin was five lengths to Rain Affair who again failed to break his group 1 hoodoo while Better Than Ready (McMahon) was a length and a quarter away in third. The overall time was 1.11.27 with the last 600m 36.3.

“We wondered about the rain, though he has won on it we thought he was better on top of the ground,” Cummings said.

“He was very comfortable on top of the ground, Peter rode him well, positively and got him into a competitive spot right from the gate and the horse did the rest.

“This was the right weekend (to resume), the race was here so there is no point in blinking, we had the horse. In the parade ring he was the stand out horse, he was fit, ready so you go to the races and see what happens.

“Last year he was injured at Randwick when he ran third behind Jolie Bay and he had to go out. We had plans of going to the Coolmore as a spring three-year-old.

“It took a bit of time and when he came back we had a plan of going to The Galaxy but at the end of the day the timing didn’t suit, the horse wasn’t ready, we elected to wait and we got the right result.

“From the first day that he came in I said to Mr Cojuangco that I thought he was a group 1 horse, it took a little bit longer to prove it than I expected but I am glad he got the job done.”

“It has been a great day, rode a couple of winners but more importantly I have ridden a group 1 winner for Anthony Cummings and Gooree who have supported me over the past few years,” Robl said.

“(Your Song) is very versatile, he does go very well in all conditions and with this wet track, while they were all rubbing their hands together with Rain Affair, we were growing more confident as it rained.

“He is a beautiful animal, beautiful attitude and he has just been A1 from the moment he turned up at Anthony’s as a young horse and he has deservedly won a group 1 race today and he will win a few more.”

Your Song is by Fastnet Rock out of the Fuji Kiseki (JPN) mare Zembu and is owned by Gooree Pastoral Stud Syndicate.
