Now leading the Victorian training premiership, Weir turned back the clock when he won the $160,000 race with May’s Dream, a daughter of his former stable favourite She’s Archie.

She’s Archie gave Weit his first win in a G1 race in the 2002 South Australian Oaks and endeared herself to the Ballarat trainer when she finished second to the great Makybe Diva in the 2003 Melbourne Cup.

Weir was thrilled to see May’s Dream confirm the big opinion he has held of her at just her second start.

“She’s always shown us a bit at home,” Weir said.

“We thought if she could just have a little bit of luck from the barrier she was always going to be strong late and it worked out perfect.”

May’s Dream launched a powerful burst down the centre of the straight to collect almost $100,000 in prizemoney and bonuses for connections.

May’s Dream reeled in the leaders to score by one length from Written Up with Sprewell third, six lengths in advance of the remainder of the field.

Winning jockey Damian Lane was impressed by May’s Dream, who had finished third at Donald on debut.

“She stood the leaders eight lengths and to pick them up and win as easy as she did was a big effort,” Lane said.

Lane enkoyted a great start to the three-day Swan Hil carnival as he also won a heat of the Silver Bowl aboard the Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained Pillar Of Creation.

Weir trained three winners on the opening day with his first two winners Samer Drive and It’s Vital ridden by Brad Rawiller.
